Yes, the aquarium is open Christmas Day. What better way to spend the day with your family than by looking at cuddly (and not so cuddly) creatures of the sea. Special hours are in effect for Christmas Day, however.

The stunning display outside of St. Paul’s Hospital on Burrard Street is the perfect lights display to enjoy on Christmas Day. Take the family or that special someone for a walk and enjoy!

Ski the local mountains

Grouse Mountain

Grouse Mountain is open Christmas Day. What better way to enjoy than holiday than with fresh powder? Grouse has the longest Christmas Day hours out of all the local mountains.

Christmas Day hours: 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Mount Seymour

Another great mountain to enjoy fresh powder on. They are open both today and Christmas day.

Christmas Day hours: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Cypress Mountain

The West Vancouver mountain is open Christmas Day as well.

Places to dine out on Christmas

 

Boulevard Kitchen & Oyster Bar

Guests are invited to celebrate the season by enjoying a special Christmas Day service on Friday, December 25 in Boulevard’s elegant dining room, with sumptuous four-course holiday brunch and dinner menus available for $85 per person (plus tax and gratuity).

Highlights of the Christmas Brunch menu include dishes such as “Crème Brûlée” French Toast (thick brioche toast, salted almonds, Tahitian vanilla, caramelized sugar) and Maple Roasted Local Butternut Squash Soup (allspice, crispy sage, beurre noisette), while Christmas Dinner highlights include Slow-Roasted Turkey (apricot and pine nut stuffing, mashed Yukon gold potatoes, Brussels sprouts, cranberry sauce, giblet gravy), Roasted Ling Cod (white bean purée, clams, smoked ham hock) and Rum Baba (orange confiture, vanilla chantilly, speculoos ice cream) or Bûche de Noël (hazelnut praline, apple butter, cranberry sorbet) for dessert.

La Pentola

Celebrate Christmas Day at La Pentola with a choice of four different dinner menu options ranging from three-courses for $40 per person to a 10-course extravaganza for $85 per person. Enjoy appetizers like the parmesan cheese soufflé with roasted beets, balsamic glazed carrots and buttered almonds, as well as feature pastas, such as maltagliati with lamb ragu, mint and pecorino. Mains are a choice of whole roasted prime rib, prosciutto wrapped whole deboned turkey or honey glazed pork leg (with vegetarian options available). La Pentola is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and Boxing Day, from 7 a.m. to late.

ORU Cuisine

ORU is offering a buffet dinner ($99 per person) on Christmas Eve, and a special brunch ($89) and buffet dinner menu ($99) on Christmas Day, which means a cooking-free holiday for home cooks. Diners can expect traditional flavours of the holidays with an ORU twist, complete with all the trimmings. All dining options grant diners the opportunity to help themselves to local artisanal cheeses and charcuterie, salads, carvery, hot dishes, and dessert.

The ever so sleek MARKET by Jean-Georges will offer a prix fixe Christmas Dinner menu for $98 per person. Diners will be served four courses and have the choice between a range of appetizing starter, main, and dessert plates. Menu highlights include Warm Goat Cheese Flan, Seared Pacific Scallops, Roasted Rossdown Farms Turkey, and the MARKET Candy Cane Cheese Cake.

Christmas Day Brunch at MARKET by Jean-Georges will be a memorable affair. Available for $59 per person MARKET by Jean-Georges will offer a variety of plates, guaranteed to fill guests up after a busy morning of unwrapping presents. Patrons can enjoy appetizers like bircher muesli, beet cured salmon, and a kale caesar salad. Mains include Heritage Angus Beef Short Rib, Smoked Salmon Benedict, Brioche French Toast, and Lamb Merguez Hash.

YEW seafood + bar

The team at YEW seafood + bar have gone above an beyond to take the pressure off home cooks this Christmas. Not only is the upscale restaurant hosting a Christmas Eve Dinner, but also a Christmas Day Brunch, as well as a Christmas Day Dinner.

Available from 5 to 10 p.m. YEW seafood + bar’s Christmas Eve three-course dinner will feature a range of delicious eats, including Celery Root Soup with truffle and candied black cod, Roasted Duck Breast with all the fixings (crispy confit, chestnuts speck ham, Brussels sprouts, and chocolate cherry jus), and a Christmas Plum Pudding with brandied sauce.

Those searching for a Christmas Day Brunch will be happy to note that YEW seafood + bar will be offering an irresistible spread of decadent pastries, fresh seafood, charcuterie and hearty carvery cuts. Also on site a made-to-order Abacore Tuna Taco Station, a Kids-Favourites station and a magical selection of sweets from the Bakeshop. Available from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. YEW seafood + bar’s Christmas Day brunch is $91 per adult and $45 per child.

Boasting traditional holiday flavours, Christmas Day Dinner at YEW seafood + bar is sure to provide diners with that warm and cozy feeling. The three-course meal, which will be served from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. will feature an array of enticing options, like Parsnip Soup with Dungeness Crab, Roasted Turkey with all the fixings (buttermilk whipped potatoes, Brussel sprouts, confit leg, Ned’s Cranberry Sauce), and an Egg Nog Brioche Pudding.

Burnaby’s Hart House is offering a festive three-course feast on both Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Available for $72 per person (plus tax and gratuity), Hart House’s festive spread highlights include Sweet Potato Velouté, Roasted Beet Salad, Roast Turkey Dinner, Seared Beef Tenderloin, Sous Side Steelhead Trout, Blood Orange Tart, and Egg Nog Panna Cotta.

Dockside Restaurant

Enjoy a lavish Christmas Day Brunch at Dockside Restaurant on Granville Island. Beautifully presented, Dockside’s buffet brunch includes the usual continental breakkie suspects (house-made granola, local fruits and berries, yogurt, and all-butter pastries) as well as festive favourite eats, like Brown Sugar and Sea Salt Crusted Berkshire Ham. Christmas Day brunch will be available for $74.95 per adult (plus tax and gratuity), and $37.95 for children aged between 6 and 12.

Dockside will continue its festive offerings with a buffet spread at dinner. With a smorgasbord of eats, including Fresh Shucked Dungeness Crab and Cold Water Shrimp, Bacon Wrapped Scallops, Roasted Turkey Leg with Herbed Pan Gravy, Slow Roasted Prime Rib, Rosemary Roasted Potatoes, and a whole lot more Dockside’s buffet dinner is sure to satisfy even the most fussiest of eaters. Christmas Day dinner will be available for $84.95 per adult (plus tax and gratuity), and $42.95 for children aged between 6 and 12.

Forage

On Christmas Day, Forage will host three supper seatings, at 4 , 6, and 8 p.m. for their Family Style Holiday Feast,  priced at $50 per person. Menu highlights include grilled kale salad with caramelized apples and roasted hazelnuts, a charcuterie board with cured meats and house-made pickles, roasted Fraser Valley turkey with all the festive trimmings, OR hay-smoked pork rack roast with maple apple chutney, and last but not least a sticky toffee pudding, with ginger egg nog ice cream, and Forty Creek caramel.

Hawksworth Restaurant

Downtown’s award-winning Hawksworth Restaurant will be offering their special Holiday Tasting Menu ($98) at dinnertime, from December 23 through the 30th. Savour lightly smoked salmon, farro risotto with black tuffle, pan roasted scallops, Fraser Valley Pheasant Breast, and soy glazed sablefish, among other eats, in Hawksworth’s gorgeous space.

White Spot

In keeping with the spirit of giving this holiday season two White Spot restaurant locations will once again host, for the 14th consecutive year, their annual Christmas Day Luncheon, in support of local charities.

On December 25, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., while patrons enjoy a variety of White Spot classics, management and staff at both the Richmond Centre and Kingsway locations will generously donate their time, tips and proceeds to the Richmond Hospital Foundation and Variety, and The Children’s Charity respectively.

The two participating restaurants hope to top last year’s combined fundraising total of $16,000.
