One day is a meteor shower then a solar eclipse. There are a lot of reasons to look up these last weeks.
Tomorrow, August 21st, you’ll be able to see the first solar eclipse since 1979 (when the moon completely cover the sun). The U.S. will experience the full effect of the eclipse, but up here we will still be able to experience 70% of the effect. The best hour to watch the eclipse is between 1:10pm to 3:49pm.
Below are a few places where you’ll be able to check out the eclipse. Just don’t forget to view the solar eclipse safely, to avoid damaging your eyes.
CNE (10 a.m. – 5 p.m.)
Princess Margaret Fountain, Exhibition Grounds.
Join the University of Toronto at the CNE to view the partial solar eclipse. Meet astronomers to learn about the eclipse and to get all your burning astronomy questions answered.
Ontario Science Centre (10 a.m. – 5 p.m.)
TELUSCAPE, outside the main entrance of the Ontario Science Centre.
You’ll have the opportunity to view the eclipse through specially filtered glasses and telescopes with the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada.
York University (1p.m. – 4p.m.)
York University, Lions Stadium.
The York University Observatory Team will have individual solar glasses and several solar telescopes to safely view the solar eclipse, as well as interactive science demonstrations.
